Prints and more of where you live
We Live Here’s prints and products celebrate the buildings and scenes that define where we live. All illustration and design is created by We Live Here founder, Jonathan Wilkinson. Illustrations are original and created from scratch: nothing is traced or reproduced.
Backstory
The roots of Jonathan's work date back to his A-level in technical drawing, when things were done the old fashioned way - with ruler and pencil. He went on to study Fine Art at the Psalter Lane campus, Sheffield Hallam University, where he developed his painting and illustration practice. His growing interest in 'local' culture and architecture led him to establish We Live Here in 2007. The first-ever print was Tinsley’s now-demolished Cooling Towers. The online store and Classic Building series are in their third year of existence and continue to be popular in Sheffield, the UK and around the world.
Less is more
Inspired by constructivist graphic design and the Bauhaus movement, We Live Here’s pared-down diagrammatical style aims to represent as much detail as is possible in just two or three colours. More recent works take the style in a new direction by attempting to create a more hyperreal image that sits somewhere between illustration and photography.
The eye of the beholder
Jonathan describes the We Live Here creative process as exploring what people love about where they live, and the chance to recreate urban vernacular with architectural precision. He says: "Above all I get a kick out of reimagining these unconventionally beautiful buildings in my own style. For me it gives the buildings a greater sense of importance and hopefully makes us think a little differently about them too."
