These seventy-year-old structures are part of a former power station that ceased to be in the mid 60s. Since then it has sat un-molested for the past couple of decades. It reportedly acts as a counter-balance to the Tinsley Viaduct, which carries a kilometre stretch of the M1 past that retail park (I mention no names). Following an extensive strengthening program that supposedly negated the need for the Cooling Towers, their future has become more and more precarious.
